East Anglian Area Group

Co-ordinated by Peter Hunt T 01787 375884

Meetings occur on the last Sunday of each month.

Report by Mike Bootman

2009 might be the ScaleSeven Group’s 20th birthday, but 22 February was the 50th meeting of the East Anglian Group. It was back at the end of 2004 that Don Field suborned Peter Hunt—jovial proprietor of Perfect Miniatures and of Chuffs before that—into forming the Group. Since then it has grown to some 60 members—not quite all S7 Group members, but sufficiently interested to test the waters and transfer their skills, of whom around a quarter are regular attendees.

In that time the ‘temporarily misplaced’ former GE branch to West Mersea has developed a substantial terminus, and is about to extend further backwards to the GE main line at Marks Tey. Set in the late 1940s LNER period it is gradually being drawn onto maps and written into local history.

Apart from the substantial efforts put in to achieve the current situation, the layout and Peter’s drive, boundless enthusiasm and bright ideas has given birth to, and continues to evolve and develop, the range of modelling techniques and products in S7, and setting high standards for those members who work on it. Rather than dwell any further here, it might be more acceptable to see a full update of progress as a separate article in a forthcoming Newsletter. In the meantime, any ScaleSeven modeller is welcome to visit and see for themselves.

The monthly meeting is usually (but not always) on the last Sunday in the month and weekly working party meetings take place most Wednesdays. Ring Peter before planning your journey to confirm dates and times, and a warm welcome will always await you.
