Meeting Notice
S7 South East Area Group
Thames Valley Meeting Saturday 14th April 2012
The Stewart Village Hall Brightwell-cum-Sotwell Wallingford, Oxon OX10 0RR
10.30am to 4.30pm
This year’s National April Scale7 meeting run by the Thames Valley offshoot of the South East Area Group is, for the fifth year, in the pretty Oxfordshire village of Brightwell-cum-Sotwell off the A4130, 3 miles from Didcot and 2 miles from Wallingford. The Stewart Village Hall is a largish, airy and light hall on the lower side of the village and is very suitable for a friendly Scale7 Group get together.
At the time of writing there will be two layouts present, Wyebridge (Julian Russell) and Hemyock (Eric Hines). There may also be some boards from layouts under construction. The usual traders (Laurie Griffin, Peter Hunt, Pat Legg, Len Newman) will be present plus David Rayner, from the East Anglia Area Group, with his range of buffers and other bits and pieces mastered using the latest print- ing techniques. Various demonstrators will be present to show you how they do things—and for you to disagree with if you so wish! The ScaleSeven Stores will also be present. Of course there will also be plenty of space if you just want to chat among yourselves.
It is hoped that the South East S7 Demonstration Track will be present this year (this is dependent on suitable space being available) for you either to run stock or to have it photographed. Please bring your models to show us all what you are doing.
All admissions remain at £5 per head (S7 members, friends and Guild mem- bers) which will include tea, coffee and soft drinks all day. For S7 members and accompanying friends the £5 will also in- clude lunch whilst the cost for lunch for all others will be £2.50 per head on prior notification. Lunch will be ham/cheese salad plus fruit.
We would like to know numbers who will take lunch so that we don’t over cater. Please let us know by Thursday 12th April by either telephoning 01491 835648 (evenings) or emailing Rob Thompson. Please don’t leave it until the last minute to call and let us know you need lunch as we will be shopping Friday morning.
The car park at the hall is available for use but now has to be shared with the Village Shop. There should be parking for all exhibitors, demonstrators and traders but from 08:30 onwards space will be taken up by shop staff and shoppers. There is on-street parking around the hall but please ensure you leave all drives and gateways free. Loading/unloading can take place in front of the hall.
For those without sat-navs, detailed directions were printed in NL 79 in 2010 but if anyone wants a copy of the directions or a map please contact Rob.
From the South, West and North.
Find your way to the A34 and then head to the Didcot junction (also signposted to the Didcot Steam Centre). Head towards Didcot on the A4130, continue on the A4130 towards Wallingford and take the first turn on the right after the “Brightwell-cum-Sotwell” village sign, follow the road left towards the village and the Hall is on the left about 200 yards after the right / left hand bend as you enter the village.
A34 to Brightwell is 7 miles.
From London and the East
Use either the M40 or M4. From the M40, Junction 6 (sign- posted B4009 Princes Risborough and Wallingford) turn left onto B4009, follow this through Watlington, Benson, and left onto the A4074. At the first island go straight on onto the Walling- ford by-pass. Follow Didcot signs for 4 miles to the end of the by-pass (at the 5th island) and turn left. This is A4130 and the easiest way to the hall is to take the 4th signposted turn on left at the far end of village, follow back on yourself into village and Hall is as left.
M40 to Brightwell is 12 miles
From the M4, Junction 8/9
(signposted Henley), follow A404M and then A4130 to Henley and on towards Wallingford. At bottom of hill in Crowmarsh Gifford turn left at roundabout onto Wallingford bypass, follow signs to Didcot and then as for M40 instructions.
M4 to Brightwell is about 23 miles.
There will be S7 signs from both directions on the main A4130, which goes round the village, giving a clear route to the Hall. Please observe these.
This show is put on for your enjoyment and chance to see what others are doing as well as to buy those things you need, please support it.
