2017 Wagon Building Competition update

Subject - 4 and 6 wheel NPCCS vehicles

This competition was announced in Newsletter 107 and so those who have joined the S7 Group since then may be unaware of our annual event for wagon builders; you may read the original announcement through the Newsletter download section of the S7 Group web-site (login to access the members' area) or through the Modelling Competitions pages (no login required).  As well as providing information about the current wagon competition the Modelling Competitions web-pages cover previous competitions and proposals for future carriage and wagon building competitions.

The purpose of the competition is to encourage members of the group to build wagons...  and offer their work for judging at an AGM.  Each year the competition is judged by a well-known personality from the world of model railways - last year we were honoured by Ian Pope of Lightmoor Press (author and specialist on the railways of the Forest of Dean).  This year our competition judge is Nigel Smith, current Chairman of the Gauge 0 Guild, who shall present the winner with the Chairman's Cup (although the award is actually a shield).

The subject for this year is a four wheel or six wheel Non-Passenger Carrying Coaching Stock vehicle in revenue livery - details of what types of vehicle are eligible and those which are not eligible for this competition can be found in the original announcement (NL 105 or web-site).  Discussions with members recently have indicated that the competition may benefit from relaxing the eligibility requirements - for this competition any prototype vehicle which carried 'XP' branding is eligible unless otherwise excluded.  So, for example:- Fruit and Banana vans are now eligible.  Please note that XP-rated stock for carriage of livestock, eg. horseboxes, prize cattle vans and similar are not eligible as those prototypes are the subject for a future competition.

As before, questions about prototype eligibility...  entry procedure....  administration...  to myself or the S7 Group secretary.
