Thank you, Adrian, very much for giving us this sad news.

I am so sorry as David was such a lovely person. He was a wonderful modeller and regularly produced amazingly high quality models for our S7G competitions as well as in articles in Model Railway Journal. He was a frequent winner on both categories.

David’s books on LMS locomotives together with Bob Meanley, John Jennison and others were absolutely outstanding and have become the references for these engines. His last book on the Royal Scots is a monument to his talent, skills and determination. It was a superb revision and supplement to an excellent earlier version. My copy is regularly taken out and used from my library shelves.

His interest and knowledge of the Midland Railway, LMS and BR LMR was amazing. He was a keen member of these railway societies especially the Midland Railway.

He was incredibly helpful to me at Masterpiece Models and we could not have undertaken our current LMS/BR 7P/8P project without his help and support. He lent us copies of Works Drawings and supplementary information from his research.

David was quietly passionate about Scaleseven modelling and supported S7G at every opportunity. His attendance at our events at Mark and AGMs was notable. He was keen to be involved by asking sensible questions at AGMs. He was delighted when he was invited to become our Vice President.

David had a distinguished career in the RAF flying jet aircraft on Hunters, Phantoms and latterly Tornado F3 fighters. He flew RAF aircraft in the UK, Germany and in the Far East flying as a pilot and later as an instructor running up thousands of flying hours.

On a personal note meeting David was each time like a continuation of the last conversation. We were privileged to know him and he made a huge contribution in everything he did especially for us in Scaleseven.
