South East Area Group Report October 2020

By now we had thought that we would again be meeting in my shed each month, however, the recent news means that this is unlikely to happen until next Easter.

Notwithstanding that we have continued to meet each week online and we regularly have between 8 and 10 participants, and discuss what modelling, we each are doing.

John Walker has been designing a Bullied driving wheel using 3D printing in conjunction with Rob Wigley and Eldred Clark. It has been printed in metal and now has to be machined to the final finish.

Eldred has been building MG&N 6 wheel coaches. Eric Ramsey has been producing parts for NE wagon under frames by 3D Printing, and they look very good.

Tony Watts has been researching private owner wagons for Bow Junction and George Morris has built a North London Railway 0-6-0 tank engine. I have been wiring up Bow Junction with Chris Webber. These last two weeks I have been fitting servo motors to drive the points. After receiving some advice from David Nicholson I now find it easier to fit servos.

In August when the virus seemed to be subsiding we held a meeting in my garden which was attended by about 10 members. The weather was very good. Merney Junction was available in the shed (we limited it two members only at a time in the shed)

Bow Junction was erected on the Patio, but it had not reached a stage when trains could run. A very enjoyable time was had by all. We had hoped to repeat the event in September but by then the virus had started up again and the weather was bad.
