Both models are built from scratch, mostly out of Nickel Silver, shaped on my pantograph mill or fretted out with a piercing saw. My trusty Myford was used for various turnings including the various boiler mountings while the buffers are home cast in white metal with sprung steel heads and rams. As is my preference all wheels are live sprung and as many as possible collect current. 195 has AGH wheels while 85A has reprofiled Slater's. Basic painting is from a rattle can then many hours spent on the lining, most of it removing and re-doing!

Two locomotives designed by James Stirling portrayed as running circa 1904. 2-4-0 No.85A of the 75 class is nearing the end of its useful life and has been placed on the ‘A’ list, still serviceable but no longer a capital asset. She ended her days at Muirkirk working trains to Kilmarnock and Ayr, her Westinghouse pump enabling her to handle excursion stock off the Caley!

4-4-0 No.195 is one of the 6 class, possibly the first successful 4-4-0 in the UK, built in 1873 for the Glasgow-Carlisle trains. After the Midland got access to Citadel in 1876 they came into their own taking over the heavy MSJS Pullman stock. However, by 1900 they were becoming run down so James Manson rebuilt 16 of the class to the condition depicted by the model thus giving them another 25 years of useful life.
